    THE 1963 MOONEY IS THE FIRST YEAR THIS MODEL WAS DESIGNATED THE M20C!
    PRIOR MOONEYS, (M20, M20A AND M20B) WERE DIFFERENT THAN THE “C” IN THAT THEY HAD 0-320 ENGINES, OR WOOD (YES WOOD) WINGS AND TAIL, BOLTED TO THE ALUMINUM CLAD FUSELAGE.
    THE”C” IS THEREFORE THE FIRST OF THE MODERN M20’S, AND IT WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO STAY IN CONTINUOUS PRODUCTION UNTIL 1978!
    THE FORMULA THAT MADE THE M20C SUCH A POPULAR AIRPLANE FOR SO LONG IS SIMPLE:
    PUT THE ULTRA RELIABLE 0-360 180 H.P. LYCOMING ENGINE IN A PLANE WITH SMOOTH SKINS, WITH A STRONG, 1 PIECE WING THAT IS THINNER THAN MOST, WITH A FUSELAGE THAT HAS A SMALLER CROSS SECTION THAN PIPER, CESSNA OR BEECH PRODUCTS, AND YOU WILL GET A FAST AIRPLANE!

    ANYONE WHO HAS EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT MAKING THEIR AIRPLANE THIS PRETTY HAS PROBABLY BALKED WHEN THEY HEAR THE -,000 STRIP AND PAINT PRICE AND DECIDED TO KEEP FLYING THEIR UGLY AIRPLANE.
    BUT NOT THIS GUY!
    IN FACT, AFTER SPENDING ALL THAT MONEY ON IT TO MAKE IT LOOK BEAUTIFUL, HE SPENT ABOUT THE SAME TO ADD AN STEC 30 AUTOPILOT SYSTEM TO MAKE IT NICER TO FLY AS WELL!
    THE 30 GIVES WING LEVELING AND ALTITUDE HOLD, AND COUPLES TO NAV SOURCES AND TO THE INCLUDED D.G. WITH HEADING BUG.
    SO ANOTHER ,000, JUST ADDED 4/13/2021, NOW ONLY 8 HOURS SINCE NEW!
    SO ,000 ADDED IN MARCH AND APRIL OF THIS YEAR ALONE.

    WASN’T A GOOD DAY.
    THIS AIRPLANE WAS LANDED WITHOUT THE PILOT REMEMBERING TO LOWER THE LANDING GEAR.
    SCRAPING TO THE BELLY RESULTED.
    AS YOU CAN SEE FROM MY PHOTOS, THE SEVERAL PANELS THAT ENCLOSE THE BELLY STRUCTURE, ALL SCREWED ON, NOT RIVETED, STARTING AFT OF THE FIREWALL (NO FIREWALL DAMAGE AT ALL) AND STOPPING BEFORE THE TAILCONE.
    YOU WILL NOTICE SOME ANTENNAS LOOK WORSE FOR WEAR, ESPECIALLY THE ADF ANTENNA THAT REMAINED ON THE BELLY EVEN AFTER THE SYSTEM WAS REMOVED, WHICH ACTED LIKE SKIDS AND KEPT SOME OF THE WEIGHT OFF THE BELLY!
    THE TWO INNERMOST FLAP BRACKETS ARE WORN DOWN, BUT THE FLAPS ARE NOT SCRAPED AT ALL!
    THE OUTER BRACKETS ON BOTH SIDES WERE ALSO NOT SCRAPED.
    AS THE GEAR WAS NEVER LOWERED, THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO ANY OF THE 3 GEAR OR THE MECHANISM.
    THE MAIN GEAR DOORS ARE UNDAMAGED, WHILE THE NOSE DOORS HAVE A LITTLE SCRAPING BUT ARE FAR FROM DESTROYED.
    OF COURSE, THE HARTZELL 2 BLADE PROP WAS BENT ON BOTH BLADES, AS YOU WOULD IMAGINE.
    THIS PROP STRIKE REQUIRES AN INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE, BUT CERTAINLY NOT AN OVERHAUL!!
    THE 0-360 ENGINE HAS A RECOMMENDED TBO (TIME BETWEEN OVERHAULS) OF 2,000 HOURS, AND THIS ENGINE HAS ONLY 1,023 SINCE THE LAST MAJOR OVERHAUL, WHICH WAS PERFORMED IN 2000!
    AT THAT OVERHAUL, ALL 4 CYLINDERS WERE REPLACED WITH BRAND NEW!
    COMPRESSIONS AT THE LAST ANNUAL INSPECTION, PERFORMED 8/8/2020, 31 HOURS AGO, WERE ALL GREAT AT 77,74,76,76.
    YOU WILL NOTICE I TOOK A PHOTO OF THE VERY END OF THE EXHAUST PIPE, WHICH HAS A SMALL AMOUNT OF ABRAISION, BUT IS NOT BENT UP.  THIS SHOULD FILE SMOOTH AND NOT REQUIRE REPLACEMENT.
    INSIDE THE AIRPLANE, THE SEATS AND MATCHING SIDE PANELS ARE VERY CLEAN AND SPIFFY, NEWER VINYL SURROUNDS WITH CLOTH DIAMOND STICHED INSERTS AND PANEL LOWERS, WITH NEWER GREY CARPETING ON THE FLOOR AND IN THE BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT.
    THE DASH ON ALL OF THE “C” MODELS HAS A CENTER STACK FOR AVIONICS.
    ALL OF THE FLIGHT INSTRUMENTATION IS OF MODERN SIZE AND STYLE, WITH A HEADING BUG D.G. TO ACCOMPANY THE STEC AUTOPILOT WITH ALTITUDE HOLD.
    THE PANEL UNITS FOR THE KING DIGITAL NAV-COMS  AND AUDIO PANEL WITH MARKER BEACONS HAVE BEEN SLID OUT OF THEIR TRAYS AND ARE NOT INCLUDED, BUT THE TRAYS ARE STILL FULLY WIRED SO YOU COULD REPLACE THEM EASILY IF YOU DESIRED.  These type radios are readily available on the used market, from us or others, now or in the future.
    THE TRANSPONDER WAS TOTALLY REMOVED, TRAY AND ALL, SO THAT WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT WITH YOUR CHOICE OF SYSTEM.
    THE KING TRAYS WILL MAKE IT EASY TO GO BACK THE WAY THIS AIRPLANE WAS, BUT HONESTLY, I AM SURE THAT THE NEXT OWNER, WHO HADN’T JUST SPENT ,000 ON HIS AIRPLANE (PLUS THE PRICE OF THE AIRPLANE ITSELF), WILL WANT TO ADD AT LEAST SOME MORE CURRENT EQUIPMENT!
    THE YOKE MOUNT FOR IPAD IS ALSO INCLUDED AND OBVIOUSLY HOW THIS OWNER, LIKE MANY, GOT HIS MODERN “FIX”.
