NOTE:The punch holes in the left corners ARE NOT FLAWS
. The manufacturer did this on purpose for hanging the pennants
You are bidding on a felt Army/West Point pennant, made by Leaf in the 1960’s. I think there were only different 48 schools in the set set.
The photo of the envelops is NOT included for sale
SIZE: It measures 3 3/8 by 9 3/8 inches.
DESCRIPTION: Each pennant in the series had a hole punched on the left corners for hanging on a string or cord for display. The school seal and letters were stenciled onto a large sheet of felt and then the individual pennants were cut from the big sheet.
HISTORY: They were sold in dime stores for 10 cents apiece. You did not know what college you had until you opened the envelop.
These were produced by Leaf Brands, a division of W.R. Grace. They were introduced about 7 years after the Hormel produced almost identical pennants as a promotional for their food products. Hormel pennants were about an 1/8 inch wider – otherwise the same but no punched holes.
RARITY. These are far more rare than their Hormel "twin" pennants
CONDITION: Excellent. See photo.
AGE: These were produced in the early 1960s
