COMBAT SYSTEMS TECHNICAL SCHOOLS COMMAND MARE ISLAND CA PATCH (OBSOLETE)

Description

This auction is for a COMBAT SYSTEMS TECHNICAL SCHOOLS COMMAND MARE ISLAND CA PATCH (OBSOLETE COMMAND).  The patch is one of the command emblems for  the now closed/retired CSTSC (
COMBAT SYSTEMS TECHNICAL SCHOOLS COMMAND)
MARE ISLAND CA command.  It is 4" in diameter and is a quality made patch.
I was stationed at this command for six months in 1981 attending four U.S. Navy Cryptographic Equipment Combined Maintenance Courses (KL-47, KY-8, KW-7, KWR-37).  This is where Submarine Radioman went to school for Cryptographic Combined Maintenance Courses and earned the 23CQ NEC (The Navy
Enlisted Classification
(NEC) system is how the Navy arranges its jobs (ratings). The NEC system supplements the enlisted rating structure in identifying personnel on active or inactive duty and billets in manpower authorizations.).  The equipment was retired and replaced by other Cryptographic equipment in the late 80s early 90s.  The command was closed sometime in the early 90's.
These patches are reproductions of command emblems when the command was open pre-1996 when Mare Island was closed (see below).   Mare Island, California is a beautiful area just outside of Vallejo, CA.  Other attractions within driving distance are San Francisco, Redwood forests, Reno NV, Yosemite National Forest, Napa Valley, etc.  I have some great memories from the six months I was stationed there.  This patch helps brings back the good memories from the time I spent there.

MARE ISLAND BASE CLOSURE
Closure date, planned reuses, parcels transferred
MINS was identified for closure during the Base Closure and Realignment (BRAC) process of 1993. Naval operations ceased and the facility was decommissioned on April 1, 1996. The planned reuse for the base consists of primarily industrial and commercial uses and also residential housing. The reuse would also include community uses such as a public golf course and regional park. A large portion of the base has already been conveyed via the following disposal methods: 1151 acres have been conveyed to the City of Vallejo via an Economic Development Conveyance, 42 acres have been transferred via Fed to Fed Transfer and 2836 acres have reverted to the State of California. Public sale acreage conveyed to date is 30 acres. Public benefit conveyance acreage conveyed to date is 7.51 acres.
