    Description

Unique USS PIEDMONT US Naval Ship Brass Ashtray
We are offering this unusual brass ash tray that honors the USS Piedmont.  If you look at the pictures, you should be able to see that the lettering and inscriptions are a little uneven - not as they would appear if manufactured in a factory.  If it was an Army or Marine item I would call it trench art, but I don't know the right term is for similar items produced by sailors. In any case, it seems to have been around for some time, possibly during WWII.
The ashtray is a special item made of solid brass.  It measures 5" across and about 3/4" high and weighs 5.6 ounces.  It looks like it has been well used.  Check the pictures for details.
    The
    USS PIEDMONT
    was
a Dixie class destroyer tender that was commissioned on 5 JAN 1944.
    USS PIEDMONT
served her country for 38 years, 8 months and 25 days, until decommissioned on 30 SEP 1982. After fit out and shake down training off the coast of Florida in mid-1944,
    USS PIEDMONT
transited the Panama Canal and joined the Pacific Fleet.
